BREWVIEW ON BIRRA DEL BORGO – DUCHESSIC
September 7, 2020: This BrewView was originally published in November 2015. Italy has been producing some world class ales from their craft breweries in the past decade. After a bit of research, Duchessic did not show on Birra Del Borgo’s beer availability list at their website; even further research did not indicate that it was retired. Would love to know the true status of it.
STYLE: Birra del Borgo’s Duchessa (Belgian-style Saison) blended with 1-year old straight Lambic from Brasserie Cantillon. 5.9% ABV.
APPEARANCE: Hazy, medium Golden with dense white head.
AROMA: Notes of banana, pineapple, spices, gentle hops, bready yeast, brett funk.
FLAVOR: Aromas carry over into the taste.
MOUTHFEEL: Moderate to moderate plus in carbonation, tickles the entire mouth with its acidity. A blend of tropical fruit and funk in the finish.
IMPRESSION: As I remember, it was a true joy to taste, as the Saison and Lambic styles are two of my favorites. If you can find it, get it.
