September 8, 2020: This was the first of three BrewViews for CERVEJARIA WÄLS. This BrewView was oringally published in June 2014 in honor of the World Cup being held in Brazil.
STYLE: Belgian (Brazilian!) Dubbel. 7.5% ABV.
APPEARANCE: Classic, unfiltered, murky brown color with light tan, dense head. (The head was thicker upon the second pour!)
AROMA: Notes of chocolate, raisins, treacle toffee, spices, burnt toast.
FLAVOR: Burnt raisins, Cardamaro liqueur, black pepper, bready yeast.
MOUTHFEEL: Gentle carbonation, smooth, peppery, raisiny finish that lingers.
IMPRESSION: Matched the quality of the classic Belgian Abbey and Trappist Dubbels. No longer in the label you see, it’s now known simply as Dubbel.
